  • Which of the following is the chemical compound name of Mohr’s Salt?

Question: Which of the following is the chemical compound name of Mohr's Salt?

    Options:

    Ammonium iron (II) sulphate
    Ammonium iron (III) sulphate
    Ammonium iron (I) sulphate
    Ammonium iron (Iv) sulphatV

-Ammonium iron(II) sulphate(Mohr's salt) is an inorganic compound that chemical formula is (NH4)2Fe(SO4)2(H2O)6.
-It is known as a double salt of ferrous sulphate and ammonium sulphate and comprises two separate cations, Fe2+ and NH4+.
-As it is readily crystallised, it is a popular laboratory reagent, and crystals resist oxidation by air.

    🛑Important Points:
-The ferrous ammonium sulphate dissolves in water to give the octahedral molecular geometry aquo complex [Fe(H2O)6]2+. Mohrite is its mineral type.
-Mohr's salt is named after Karl Friedrich Mohr, a German chemist.
-Mohr salt is prepared by dissolving, in water containing a small amount of sulfuric acid, an equimolar mixture of hydrated ferrous sulphate and ammonium sulphate, and then by crystallising the resulting solution.
-Light green crystals are formed by ferrous ammonium sulphate. As heated, this salt ionises to deliver all the cations and anions present in it.
