    -Red soil is formed from weathering of crystalline granite (igneous rocks) and gneiss (metamorphic rocks) in areas of low rainfall.
    -The reddish color of soil is due to the diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks.
    -It covers more than 66% of the total cultivated area of Andhra Pradesh and is mostly confined to the Rayalaseema region.

    -Formed from volcanic lava and basaltic rock.
    -Also known as vertisols and ragur soil.
    -It can retain moisture for a long time.
    -Rich in lime, iron, magnesia, and alumina. 
    -It develops cracks during the dry season.
