Question: In the border strip method of irrigation, the width of the strip is

    Options:

    5 – 10 m
    10 – 20 m
    20 – 30 m
    25 – 30 m

    🔑 Key Points
    🌿 Concept of Irrigation Methods:
→ Different methods of irrigation are applied to fields, and they are categorized as follows:

    🌾 A. Free Flooding
→ Also known as ordinary flooding, it is used for rolling or irregular land where borders, checks, basins, and furrows are not feasible.
→ It has low water application efficiency and is suitable for close-growing crops and steep land.
→ Sometimes referred to as wild flooding.

    🌾 B. Border Flooding
→ The land is divided into strips separated by low leaves called borders.
→ Each strip is approximately 10-20 meters wide and 100-400 meters long.
→ Water flows from a supply ditch into each strip.

    🌾 C. Check Flooding
→ Similar to ordinary flooding, but water is controlled by surrounding low, flat leaves.
→ Suitable for deep homogeneous loam or clay soils with medium infiltration rates.

    🌾 D. Basin Flooding
→ A special type of check flooding adopted specifically for orchid trees.
→ Basins can be rectangular, square, circular, or irregular.
→ Not suitable for coarse sands.

    📌 Important Points
→ Furrow Irrigation: Water is applied via small, parallel channels (furrows), with crops grown on ridges between them. It is preferred on uniformly flat or gently sloping land (≤0.5%).
→ Sprinkler Irrigation: Water is applied as a spray (overhead irrigation), best suited for light soils, and commonly used for tea, coffee, and vegetable cultivation.
→ Drip Irrigation: Known as trickle irrigation, best for row crops and orchards, applying water directly to the root zone to minimize evaporation and percolation losses.
