Question: The study of the relationship of organisms to their environment is known as:

    Options:

    Adaptation
    Acclimatization
    Ecosystem
    Ecology

✅Explanation: Ecology is the scientific study of the interactions between organisms and their environment. It encompasses the study of relationships between living beings and their physical surroundings, including the flow of energy and nutrients through ecosystems.
-Adaptation refers to the process of adjusting to new environmental conditions.
-Acclimatization is the process of becoming accustomed to a new climate or environment.
-An ecosystem is a community of living organisms interacting with each other and their physical environment.
    🔑Key Points:
    Ecology –
-Study of inter-relationship between living organisms and their environment.
-Studies how each organism lives in its unique environment.
-How organisms interact with each other and the environment.
-Ecology is studied at four levels of biological organization – organism, population, community, and biomes.
    -At the organism level –
-It deals with how different organisms adapt to their environments in terms of survival and reproduction.
-Environments are varied and lead to the formation of habitats and specific niches for all organisms.
-Organism ecology is affected by abiotic factors such as temperature, water, soil, light, etc., and the organism's response to it.
    -At the population level –
-It deals with population attributes like birth rate, death rate, population structure, population density, and life history.
-At the organism level, an individual responds to the environment but at the population level, natural selection leads to evolution.
-It links ecology to population genetics and evolution.
    -At the community level –
-Ecology at the community level deals with the interaction of populations with each other.
-Such interactions between populations can be Mutualism, Competition, Predation, Parasitism, Commensalism, or Amensalism.
    -At biome level –
-It studies the interaction of all the communities in that biome with each other and the environment.
-Biome ecology can also be studied at a global level.
-Biomes comprise a variety of habitats and consist of many communities.
-They are formed in response to a shared climate. E.g. – tropical biome, desert.
    🛑Additional Information::
    Ecosystem –
-An ecosystem consists of all the organisms and the physical environment with which they interact.
-E.g. – lake ecosystem, forest ecosystem.
-Ecology is the study of these ecosystems and how the transfer of energy happens in these ecosystems.
